The use of EO for maritime and coastal protection: technology, systems, policy and applications

    type

    oral

    Description

This Extra Session offers a 360 degree view on the topic of maritime protection leveraging Earth Observation (EO) technologies and data from space. This session is of particular relevance in the Asia-Pacific region and will encompass a combination of preventive measures, policy perspectives, advanced monitoring as well as surveillance technologies which are vital in enhancing maritime and coastal protection against various challenges and/or threats. During the Session industry experts will discuss the capabilities and challenges of EO technologies, and highlight the latest innovations used to prevent pollution incidents, monitor marine biodiversity, support safety and rescue operations, among others. The session delves as well into international regulations and policies that govern such, while promoting responsible and sustainable use of marine resources and protecting economic and environmental interests.
